Redefined

I greeted the day slowly.  Without much purpose.  Lazy.  Nothing like a warm summer morning with no plans.  Redefined.  They used to mean so many other things.  When you are raising a small household full of boys, lazy, warm summer mornings mean few blankets, long tanned legs and arms intertwined, searching for the coolness of the morning air.  Mussed up summertime bed heads searching for the couch upon entry to the living room.  Hunger winning out, headed for the kitchen to search for the large white bowl to fill with the favorite cereal.  Hoping mom made something sweet to follow it up with.  How about that swimming hole we frequently visit?  Think anyone is there yet?  It's gonna be hot today.  Let's go.

After I got over my lazy morning attitude, I went to the garden.  Two of the neighbor kids were on chicken duty.  I never thought that a passel of kids could be such a gift.  Really.  I think God placed the chicken coop closer to Sara Sue's (3 miles away) than the main house because he knew that we would some day live in the barn yard and be the daily path for these dear children.  Lugging a large bucket of watermelon rinds and a bowl of scraps, Mercy was without complaint but I figured she could use a hand.  Inez was carrying her bucket so she could collect the eggs.  She was very happy with her task.  Telling the dogs to stay home, following the role models set before her.  Something as simple as helping feed, water and gather eggs with two smiling kids can bring a summer morning together.  Redefined.

Yesterday Hubby and I took a couple of watermelons to the neighbor family.  We cut, shared and enjoyed so much more than the sweet, sticky summertime goodness of this fruit.   Waking up from his nap, the youngest sat next to his momma and took on as much of this goodness as he could hold.  Becoming full he placed his unintended piece in the bucket of water one of the kids brought for momma to put her feed in.  Thinking it was a mistake, someone dredged it out of the water with the intention of washing it off and giving back to Amos to eat.  Back in the water it went.  Clearly he had reached his saturation level and it was time to stop.

Yep.  Someone thought I needed a bouquet of flowers.  More blessings for my vessel.  Thank you Lord for filling me up daily.
